Great Pottery Show Down is the best! They filmed a 6th season that aired in the UK last year. I keep checking for when it will finally be added to Max 🤞
Head across the river in Florence to the Oltrarno neighborhood, it will be (slightly) less touristy and you'll be able to find some really great restaurants. The area near the Duomo can be hit or miss for food, but Cafe Paszkowski is one of those old classic restaurants that is worth a stop if you need a break from churches and art.
In Rome, Giolitti (near the Pantheon) is hands-down the best gelato you'll ever taste. Try all the flavors! (though I'm partial to a lemon-mint combo :) )
So, in Florence I recommend a road called "via dei Neri" where you can find "la gelateria dei Neri" for an amazing gelato and the "Antico Vinaio" for the "schiacciata", which is a local type of panini. If you're not vegetarian, you can also try the "lampredotto", bread with beef in it; street vendors usually sell it.
In Rome, look for restaurants (or "trattorie") around Trastevere or the Ghetto zone. I suggest, a "cacio e pepe" pasta (cheese and pepper) or "carciofi alla giudia" (deep-fried artichokes).
I don't remember restaurants around Como Lake, right now; also, it depends on which part of the lake you're going to be.
Hi Marco, thanks so much for these recommendations! I've heard about the artichokes and am looking forward to trying them. And my son will be THRILLED to have more gelato recommendations. I may have mentioned he can have some every day and he'll be holding me to it. :)

Thanks so much, Mary!
I'm all about Jeremiah too. I liked Bobby, but I love Jeremiah! 💛

I hoped I've been useful!

Then your son should also try a "granita" (or "grattachecca") in Rome: ice, sugar and fruit flavours. Trust me, it's better than it sounds!
