Have you chosen a word for the year?
Sharing my word of the year, plus the SLOW WRITING debut date.
Slow Writing helps you create at your own pace. If this newsletter supports you, please spread the word, and if you’re brand new to my corner, I’m really glad you found me. —Nicole (author, podcast host, and warm beverage lover)
Are you someone who chooses a word for the year? I’ve done it for a decade now, and the practice is so engrained into my annual rhythm that come fall, usually in October, I start hearing whispers of what I’d like to call in for the coming year.
In 2026, it’s ease.
Does it mean everything will be easy? Unfortunately not. But it does mean that I can release a lot of the efforting. (Translation: accept that I can’t control everything, nor do I need to.)
Did you choose a word for the year? I always love to hear where people land. Leave a comment and let me know!
Over the holidays, I addressed some of the administrative tasks that can pile up throughout the year, like updating a few pages on my author website and browsing my Google search data. I also recycled old magazines and deleted files from my digital desktop.
As predicted, this necessary clearing of both physical and mental space has made room for bigger shifts, and dare I say it’s felt downright EASEFUL to bring my podcast back into the world.
That’s also how I knew it was the right time.
Longtime listeners will recognize the wide gap—a year and a half—since I last published an episode, and there’s always a reason behind the pause. In the seven years I’ve hosted this show, it’s served as one of the most real-time ways to live out the values of seasonal creative living I’m constantly talking about. (I’ll share more about this on an upcoming episode, too.)
The next season of Slow Writing officially debuts on January 19th! Here are a few ways to help celebrate the launch.

EASE is a gorgeous word! Mine this year is two, but inspired by E.M. Forster I'm doing ONLY CONNECT. Looking forward to the restart of your podcast!
In the midst of my holiday travel, I completely forgot I pick a word until the drive home. Sometimes my word for the year is 2 words and this year it is REMEMBER and OPEN. Remember where I’ve been and be open to what’s ahead.
