A new poem!
Read my poem, "Mosquito Season," a semifinalist in Naugatuck Literary Review's annual contest.
Last year I started submitting my work to literary journals again, and most of it was rejected. Then, in the middle of December, an email with the subject line every writer craves arrived in my inbox: “Acceptance.”
This poem was written in the summer of 2023, three months after losing our dog. It’s about acknowledging the interconnectedness of nature in the midst of loss, and I hope you enjoy it.
I’ve reprinted the poem below, and if you’re able, I also encourage you to purchase a copy of the Winter 2025 issue for $10, where you can read all of the other contest finalists and winners too.

I love how the words begin to rise and tumble together at the end as the memory of her comes into the poem. It made me tear up and I don't even have a dog!
Beautiful!
